PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We are midway through the year 2000 and the long anticipated upswing in our industry has arrived.  For all of us, 1999 was a relatively mediocre year in terms of sales and profits.  For that reason, many of our customers chose to delay some of their new projects and be very selective about implementation of maintenance projects.

There is good news and bad news here.  The good news is MESA will experience record revenues this year.  The bad news is all the volume increases seem to come at the same time.  We are not complaining about either but both create challenges in maintaining the high standards of performance our customers value from MESA.

To benchmark our ability to satisfy customer needs, MESA subscribes to three performance indicators.  These indicators are so important to us that we have dedicated one article in this newsletter to outline the parameters of each measurement and show how we are doing towards meeting our goals.  We are pleased to report that we are right on target.

To meet the needs created by our increased sales volume, MESA has implemented several strategic initiatives:

·        Starting in June 2000, custom fabricating of LIDA mixed metal anodes began in our Tulsa plant.  This initiative will significantly improve the response time for this product line.

·        ISO 9002 certification is on target to be complete in the 4th quarter of 2000.

·        Investment in updating our hazardous material shipping procedures, including training of appropriate personnel (see separate newsletter article “Hazardous Material Shipping”).

In a quiet manner and without a lot of fanfare, MESA continues to do the things necessary to maintain our position as the leader in quality and service for the cathodic protection industry.
