March 2007

The year 2006 was a mountaintop experience for MESA. What many of us here have been asking ourselves is, "what's next?"

We have enjoyed our success in being recognized as a 2006 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipient. And, this newsletter is dedicated to messages about this experience. However, we want to assure our customers that we will not sit around trying to recapture the glory days (as Bruce Springsteen might say) of 2006. At MESA, we are movin' on.

MESA was founded over 28 years ago on the premise of providing a quality product for a fair price. Through countless interactions with customers and suppliers, we are convinced that MESA's past and future success is driven by being the quality and service leader of the industry. To that end, we've established performance goals, achieved ISO 9001 certification, and adopted LEAN improvement methodology. For the past five years, we have been actively involved in the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Program in pursuit of performance excellence.

Although we are very pleased and excited to receive this recognition, we also want our customers to know that we are not satisfied. MESA is committed to continuous improvement and we will continue to get better in all areas of our business. As one example, our On-Time shipping performance has improved from 93% in 2002 to over 97% in 2006. Our goal is to reach 99% by 2010.

As a Baldrige Award recipient, we expect to be held to high standards. But, we're not perfect and we will make mistakes. Be assured that we remain committed to complete satisfaction through our MESA Value Promise (MVP) and our Code of Conduct. We want you to let us know when we haven't met your expectations.

Sincerely,

Terry May
