In this section of our newsletter, we usually feature one of our MESA employees. However, in this issue, we are going to share insight from several of our employees about their view of MESA. These thoughts were first shared with the Baldrige site visit team in October 2006. Apparently these employees' comments made a big impression on this group of 6 people so we wanted to share the same thoughts with our customers and other MESA Online readers.

According to Pat McDaris, Inside Sales Coordinator and 20-year MESA employee, "It's a family atmosphere here. And everyone understands the importance of family." Pat goes on to explain that MESA is the business version of a small, close, functional family. This feeling that Pat expresses is one of the best things about being a small company - the ability to be agile, direct communication and quicker decision making. Small size also results in less formality and less documentation in many cases. We'd rather talk about an issue, obtain the important information and intelligence, and make a quick decision rather than go through lengthy analysis, review and documentation.

Nancy Massey, Senior Accounting Specialist is a 9-year employee of MESA. She clearly has an understanding of the MESA company mission: To provide superior value through out people, processes and products. Nancy says, "Our company pride comes not just from management, but from employees." Nancy will quickly tell anyone that "people" are listed first in the mission statement because everyone understands that people are the key to MESA's current as well as future success.

Inside sales employees at MESA are the lifeline between the company and their customers. Herb Jones has been with MESA for 11 years and says, "We ask our customers, when do you need this? Then we deliver." Sounds simple and it is if one follows Herb's daily philosophy: Quiet please. We're listening to our customers. Some of MESA's performance success is discussed further on in this newsletter and those results will bear out what Herb says, "We ask and then deliver."

Max Moll, Operations Manager and 24-year employee for MESA sums up what being a Baldrige recipient means to MESA. "We're a work in process. We are all part of the company and everyone knows the vital signs." What Max and all others employees at MESA understand is the company is focused on continuous improvement and that will not change with the Baldrige award. Business as usual means a business that is continually improving - no resting on laurels for MESA.
